Madrid, capital of Spain, is an exciting cosmopolitan city located right in the heart of Spain, with its spacious feel and elegant plazas complementing the impressive Renaissance, Neoclassical and Romantic architecture.

By day you may want to visit the impressive Royal Palace or the world famous Museo del Prado, which houses one of the world's largest collections of fine art, including many priceless masterpieces. If you enjoy shopping then why not visit the Gran Via, with its exclusive shops and pavement cafes. In the evening why not take a relaxing stroll down the narrow streets of old Madrid, sampling some of Spain's famous Tapas along the way, or enjoy a Flamenco show for a truly Spanish experience.

If you are looking for excitement, the best time of year to go to Madrid is between mid-May and mid-June, when Madrid hosts the Feria de San Isidro, the most important event in the international bullfighting calendar.

Shopping
The famous Gran Via has a limited range of shops but stands at the fringe of the main central shopping area of Preciados and Carmen, where you will find all kinds of shops includng the main department stores. Sunday is market day, with the bustling Rastro flea market, the weekly book fair or the stamp market in Plaza Mayor

Wining and Dining
The spanish like to eat out so there are plenty of restaurants for all tastes and budgets. If, in the local fashion, you choose to dine late, you could keep going with a visit to one of the many tapas bars. Sip a drink in Plaza Mayor or lose yourself in the web of streets between there and Plaza Isabel II. The nightlife is hectic and keeps going 'til dawn.
